I have a strong wish to review ie rave endlessly about the entire, supermassive collection of this artist s work However, to do that in depth would take months and an unsafe amount of coffee. So, here is a short, sweet story by story review I ll give brief synopses and thoughts of the stories included because I don t want to spoil anything It s better to go in not quite knowing what to expect, trust me If this isn t your first Ito manga, you ll probably agree Bio House 4 5 A woman get I have a strong wish to review ie rave endlessly about the entire, supermassive collection of this artist s work However, to do that in depth would take months and an unsafe amount of coffee. So, here is a short, sweet story by story review I ll give brief synopses and thoughts of the stories included because I don t want to spoil anything It s better to go in not quite knowing what to expect, trust me If this isn t your first Ito manga, you ll probably agree Bio House 4 5 A woman gets invited to her boss s remote mansion for dinner This earlier piece is short and intensely gross But it is inventive on the old vampire trope The Face Burglar 5 5 One of my personal favorites If you could look like anybody, who would you look like The main character of this can do just that as long as she can see the face of who she wants to be on a regular basis, but when she chooses the wrong girl to copy Den of the Sleep Demon 4 5 A man becomes an insomniac when his subconscious alter ego decides to take over his body One of those stories that makes you grateful you re not in it The premise and ending of this are both quite unsettling, really A bit Nightmare on Elm Street flavored The Devil s Logic 5 5 A strange student is convincing her peers to commit suicide I feel Devil s Logic is sort of poetic, rather than a horror story I absolutely love this one Village of the Sirens 6 5 An enigmatic factory has popped up in a remote, nearly deserted village With it has come a deranged occultist who takes control of what is left of the town and uses its residents to kickstart the apocalypse My all time, most top notch favorite Junji Ito story, ever It s probably my favorite supernatural occult ish short story ever penned on paper The Long Hair in the Attic 5 5 The title story A woman s hair grows a mind of its own, whether she likes it or not Peculiar and messed up It s sort of akin to The Grudge, in a way Love as Scripted 3.5 5 Obsession and toxic love A narcissist screenplay writer makes girls in his cast fall in love with him, only to dump them soon after Heart of a Father 4 5 A love is cruel, family drama with a touch of the supernatural I m not, truthfully, a huge fan of this one But I won t deny, it is very well executed and deserves a good star One of hiswell known shorts Sword of the Reanimator 3.5 5 A politician is resurrected by a man who calls himself the Reanimator His son investigates the man, to disastrous results To me, this one felt very mainstream shonen, for some reason I guess it s that fellow with the big hair in the fancy cloak carrying around an ancient sword Not that it s bad, it s a good story, just a bit out of place The Bully 4 5 Human nature at its nastiest Genuinely unsettling Especially because this is probably the most realistic of the bunch Nothing in this is supernatural in any way Unbearable Maze 3 5 Social anxiety as horror I didn t find this one that scary, I m not sure it was really supposed to be Unique, yes Creepy, not much A Deserter in the House 5 5 A family provides a safe haven for their friend who ran away during the war After the war, the eldest brother decides to punish him for deserting by convincing him that the war is still going on, and that he is being hunted This one sof a tragedy than a horror, actually Or at least I found it to be, and surprisingly poignant as well The art is also at its absolute best in this one, as this is the latest.Art 8 5Stories 4.5 5Character Depth 4 5 For short stories, there are some surprisingly well done characters General Score 5 5Age rating 15 Wouldn t recommend to anyone sensitive to violence, but there is no nudity

A nice collection of short stories I expected a little Lovecraftian but I got somethinglike Goosebumps The last three stories were the best The Village of Sirens Yes, a bit Lovecraftian , The Bully A bit childish yet it was fun A Deserter in the House Not scary at all but I liked the twist A nice collection of short stories I expected a little Lovecraftian but I got somethinglike Goosebumps The last three stories were the best The Village of Sirens Yes, a bit Lovecraftian , The Bully A bit childish yet it was fun A Deserter in the House Not scary at all but I liked the twist

After oh 700 pages of Tomie cutting up her boyfriends parts, this third volume in Ito s Terror series sadly, the last as well is kind of refreshing in that it focuses on stories where gore typical stories of a characters myopia becoming their demise The freak out stories with blood and flesh Den is especially gruesome After oh 700 pages of Tomie cutting up her boyfriends parts, this third volume in Ito s Terror series sadly, the last as well is kind of refreshing in that it focuses on stories where gore shock isn t the focus Most of these stories are from the late 80 s to 1990 Den of the Sleep Demon, and The Long Hair in the Attic are here because they re expected typical stories of a characters myopia becoming their demise The freak out stories with blood and flesh Den is especially gruesome and the best example of that Louvre of Lust that Ito calls his mind, showcasing a transformation that would make Kafka cringe There is also high fantasy in Sword of the Reanimator and The Village of Sirens The former being a vessel for shonen lovers maybe the weakest story here while Sirens is great on the build up, but typical in its climax Still not bad for a monthly Halloween thrill Most interesting are the stories where psychological terror is ripe, moist, throbbing, with only the denouement giving in to typical Ito gross outs hey, its what you wanted , if at all Heart of a Father, as well as the final two stories, The Bully, and A Deserter in the House are the best things here Heart and Bully both concern jealousy in its cruelest stage dude seems to know a lot about that, huh , and provide the reader with Ito s ability to creep without going anywhere near ero guro territory Deserter is the obvious winner of the collection, a story concerning deceit and rage, with an ending that refocuses everything that comes before it and even goes as far as being a critique against revenge and anger all together An afterword from a filmmaker makes good note that Ito s all about familial love hatred With all the love hate here, it s hard not to feel a part of Ito s psychomindfuck of a family 3.5 stars

Pretty good. This was an anthology of manga horror stories by Junji Ito for various magazines collected here in a book The artwork is about average, but looks a little old school All of the stories were at least remotely interesting Some were amazing, though Heart of a Father was my favorite, but not by a huge margin. This doesn t need to be read in context of a series because they re all unrelated stories These stories are pretty creepy and some were a little nasty Overall it s pretty goo Pretty good. This was an anthology of manga horror stories by Junji Ito for various magazines collected here in a book The artwork is about average, but looks a little old school All of the stories were at least remotely interesting Some were amazing, though Heart of a Father was my favorite, but not by a huge margin. This doesn t need to be read in context of a series because they re all unrelated stories These stories are pretty creepy and some were a little nasty Overall it s pretty good, but nothing I would have spent money on

A true gem, less repetitive than the other two volumes, and full of great stories, very in the Ito vein This is why we love this man.

Great standalone stories Reading them in bulk maybe retracts the individual impact of them Still very enjoyable Manga is one of the better mediums for horror definitely I love Junji Ito and the feelings he is able to create with his work He creates this certain feeling of unease I haven t experienced outside of his work.
