What if Goldilocks had been a zombie? What if it had been the bears who entered the house? What ifsomeone tried to frame the bears? This is the second of the Plainfield Chronicles which give a lovely macabre twist to classic fairy tales as the town of Plainfield is inhabited by zombies Moldylocks our slightly green heroine is desperate to win the audition to play the bear in the production of Grizzlylocks and to beat her arch enemy Jeminy Unfortunately she has no roar and this is a vital part of the audition no roar no playing the bearand no theatre school So when a family of bears arrive in town she takes the opportunity to learn to be bear But when mysterious break ins start happening what is the town folk to thinkafter all you can't trust a bearcan you?I really enjoyed this story and liked the interaction between the bears and the zombiesand the little cameo by Scar from Scar and the Wolf and the scenes where Conniption the mother of Jeminy put her through her training regimes made me giggle Well worth a read and will definitely be reading from PlainfieldI received a free copy of Moldylocks in return for an honest review My copy unfortunately had two Chapter 8s which broke the flow a little but it didn't interfere with the story and I would definitely recommend this to others who enjoy the slightly suidgy and gooey side of fairy tales

You can find my original review at the blog have to say I absolutely love this series The first book Scar and the Wolf just totally won me over It has drama mystery and comedy Oh and the best part? There is zombies But zombies for kids that can still be entertaining to grown ups too So yeah I love a series that is basically geared toward the middle grade crowd although my 8 year old still enjoyed it In a way that is a huge compliment to the author because it is that interesting that it can keep a 30 something woman hooked to the last page BravvosSo each book takes a different fairy tale like Goldilocks and the three bears and completely turns it on its head There is zombies in it a deeper storyline and morals that can still teach us today And there is lots of comedy Our main character Moldylocks is this little zombie girl who is a huge fan of Bears Of course she is a fan of the misconception of bears Besides bears she is also a talented actor in the local plays Moldylocks puts up with bullying from the popular girl at school and the other classmates and seems to be lonely a lot The local theater where her mom directs is putting on a huge play about Bears and is having a contest for the main part This is Moldy's chance to get out of Plainfield through the acting scholarship up for grabs But she isn't the only one who wants that part and Moldylocks ends up learning about Bears than she ever thought possible especially when a family of bears moves into the areaThese bears are pretty awesome They have a great sense of style have wonderful taste in music and have the most wonderful attitude when it comes to less than appealing neighbors In fact the way this trio of bears deals with the judgmental and rude zombies is something we could all learn from myself included Skip Muffy and Brockster open up their home to the zombies trying to show them bears aren't the vicious killers everyone believes them to be Unfortunately the town is too caught up in the rumors to actually give this family the benefit of the doubt There are only two zombies that will open their minds and hearts to this family to learn the real truth about bears The set of characters in this book are truly well written We see Moldylocks grow as she learns throughout the story that not everything is as it seems I think one of my favorite characters was Phileas He was just a darling The characters were amazing and the morals in the story were enough to make me fall in love with the story but then the creativity shown throughout will knock your socks offSimply put Moldylocks and the Bear is a fun book to readThe different names will give you a chuckleStinkpit Manor Ebnerzer Rotbody Calvin GutbucketAnd then there is the descriptions of the different zombies that will make you snort out loudEmily Shank was just a leg Tom Head was just a head with no body and Arnold was the hired help with just a body and no headAnd finally the alliteration is astounding too back up's back up was backpacking; A finger flinger finder's feeHowever there is a few grammatical errors that I found through the book It wasn't enough to take away from the story but you may want to remember this if you will not be reading out loud to your kids My kids and I actually made a little game of it and if they were reading by themselves they would bring to me any errors they found and we could correct them accordingly But again it was just a few and nothing that would take away from the overall story Overall Moldylocks and the Bear is a wonderful story that is filled with heart fun and lessons that all of us could learn from And of course there is zombies What's not to love?I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion Everything expressed here is my personal feelings and opinions

35 starsI received a copy of this title from the author in exchange for an honest reviewTen Second SynopsisMoldylocks loves bears and can't wait to audition for the main bear role in the town production of Grizzlylocks When real bears move into town Moldy sees an opportunity to discover how to go full bear and win the part but only if the machinations of the Stinkpot family don't see the bears run out of town firstThis is the second title in the Plainfield Chronicles that features retellings of traditional fairy tales set in a world of zombies I have been looking forward to this one for a while after reading the first offering Scar and the Wolf a while back Moldylocks and the Bear differs from the first tale in that it is uite a bit longer and the story has a much complex plot In this tale Moldylocks friendless bear loving social outcast has the opportunity to take the starring role in the town production of Grizzlylocks Unfortunately for Moldy Jeminy Stinkpot is also auditioning for the role and her mother Conniption is not beyond doing a bit of bribery blackmail and general underhandedness in order to ensure Jeminy secures the role At the same time a family of bears long considered natural enemies of the zombie community have moved into town and immediately come under an attack of rumour and attempts to frame them for crimes that could see them deported As Moldylocks and Brockster the young bear spend time together Moldy comes to learn about how friendship works and what it means to go full bear The ending is appropriately fun and all is set right in the end with the baddies getting what's coming to them in a slightly unexpected fashionWhile this was again a uirky original retelling of an oft told tale I did feel that this book lacked some of the charm and humour that I enjoyed in Scar and the Wolf One of my favourite parts of that story included the clever cheeky humour based around the zombies themselves plays on words amusing imagery and the general sense of individuality that comes with a community made up of the shambling undead There was a bit of that in this book the bears are the victims of a fairly amusing finger flinging attack and there are some lone eyeballs that are put to good use in a surveillance capacity but I didn't take to Moldy in uite the same way as I did to ScarDespite this I am still looking forward to seeing what other decaying tales the Plainfield gang can re imagine and I will be keeping an eye out figuratively for the next in the series I hope its Rumpelstiltskin surely there's a fantastic rump related zombie pun that could be put to good use thereRecommended for lovers of zombies and fairy tales together or seperately
