I really enjoyed this book I ve liked all of the author books, so I expected a good story and interesting characters, and I got them What I didn t expect was the level of authenticity the author created in the setting and story about archaeologists working in Mayan tombs Long ago, when I was young, I wanted to be an archaeologist In college, I studied Mesoamerican Archaeology along with many other things Thirty years ago, I spent a two week vacation volunteering at a dig in Majorca This I really enjoyed this book I ve liked all of the author books, so I expected a good story and interesting characters, and I got them What I didn t expect was the level of authenticity the author created in the setting and story about archaeologists working in Mayan tombs Long ago, when I was young, I wanted to be an archaeologist In college, I studied Mesoamerican Archaeology along with many other things Thirty years ago, I spent a two week vacation volunteering at a dig in Majorca This book brought back fond memories of getting up far too early in the morning, spending all day working hard in the heat, drenched in sweat, coated in dirt, fighting off bugs, and having a great time doing it The characters were believable, even when they were talking about their finds and their theories The author must have done a lot of research The story mixes adventure, romance and humor in an entertaining blend This appears to be the first book in a new series I m looking forward to the next installment

My biggest complaint with Ann Charles books is you can t put them down until you ve finished, but then you re bummed it s over. until the next one is released My solution is to re read them several times This latest book is no exception I really like the balancing act that Ann is able to achieve in her writing Female characters are smart and strong but able to be tender and have a sense of humor The mystery is well written, with the romance aspect woven in just the right amount Great one My biggest complaint with Ann Charles books is you can t put them down until you ve finished, but then you re bummed it s over. until the next one is released My solution is to re read them several times This latest book is no exception I really like the balancing act that Ann is able to achieve in her writing Female characters are smart and strong but able to be tender and have a sense of humor The mystery is well written, with the romance aspect woven in just the right amount Great one liners and fun situations make you laugh while you re cringing at the edge of your seat The leading male character is Quint Parker, the brother of Violet Parker from her Deadwood series I was a little worried about how he d be written, since I feel I already know him from his being mentioned in the Deadwood series, but he was just as I had thought he would be Ann s writing actually makes you think her characters are real people in real situations and settings.I really hope Ann sees fit to write about Quint and Angelica going to Rapid City to visit Violet and Doc and family, or may be they can all meet up in Jackrabbit Junction, Az Jackrabbit Junction mysteries in the future
