    This poem is an optimistic view of the purpose of life It is indeed a psalm with the rhyme scheme of abab and the lyrical sound that comes from reading it It is also a prayer of comfort Footsteps that perhaps another sailing o'er life's solemn main a forlorn and shipwreck'd brother seeing shall take heart againThis is a poem that one could live by as well as one that could be read at a funeral It is uite a contrast to Thanatopsis and it teaches a valuable lesson that out actions footsteps can help others to take heart again
