2 12 stars Dragons And dragons with magic And elemental dragons with magic Right up my alleyThis book is the fourth in the series and the first I have read The story is easy to understand without reading the others but it is just as easy to realize that I was missing a lot of background information that would have enhanced my reading experience In fact after reading the summaries of the earlier books it was obvious I was missing even than I realized and this was a rich world populated with many other magical species This was a straightforward and solid story There really wasn't any detection or a mystery to be solved There wasn't a cliffhanger but there are threads left to be developed later I'm sure I would have enjoyed it even if I had read the previous storiesI received an ARC from Netgalley and from the publisher in return for a fair review

Okay so I shouldn't have started this series at book 4 I spent some time feeling a little lost but with it being a short read I figured it was worth seeing through to the endI did enjoy the dragons in here usually human form with nice colourful hair but they can turn into dragons on will There's also magic involved too and each dragon has their own type of magicThe detective agency theme is not a unuiet one and I have read of other supernatural detectives so I wasn't that lost there and it read very much like you would expect a detective agency would so the first chapter was recognisable Then the story moved into it's own plot introducing a new dragon that needs saving That's when the whole backstory I was missing really caused a problem Dragons are being kidnapped and experimented on no idea why but I can guessThe dragons are all pretty in here can do cool stuff and I'm not sure what age anyone is Never mind it didn't stop me from enjoying itDragon Detective is probably worth reading with the rest of the series and feels like something I've read previously Because of the shortness of the book I didn't really get time to know anyone in detail but there's to come which might develop everyone a bit Anyway this is good reason why I should really read a series in order

Many of you know just how captivated I have been from the beginning with this uniue light urban fantasy series that tells the story of a magical detective and his family of dragons as they work to free dragons from the scientists that are experimenting on them Each installment advances the story forward over the years so the dragon kits are growing up This latest segment has Nickel emerging as an adult dragon and Dane’s new investigation partner Dane hands him his first big supernatural case discover the source of the weird weather hitting the area Nickel’s dragon element is water magic and he recognizes that something powerful than him is creating the huge thunderstorms hail and wacky snow in the summer Could it be another dragon?Meanwhile a terrified and exhausted air elemental dragon Platinum is trying to figure out the big world around him Platinum has lived in captivity while the scientists did painful and awful experiments on him for his entire twenty years He escaped and he is not going back but somehow the small town he found is inhabited by dragons and dragons don’t typically like another encroaching on their territory The scientists will want him back and they can’t be far behind He needs to runThis was a shorter installment in the series and hits the ground running It assumes that the reader has read the series in order and understands who all the characters are and what their situation is I was excited to see that the story is told from Nickel’s perspective It has been ten years since the events of the first book and Nickel is all grown up Lumie is at his mysterious best while he helps Nickel and Dane with this latest caseWhile I enjoyed this story it felt very much like a transitionset up for what is coming A lot is left open though the immediate plot of Platinum and the pursuing scientists is resolved I am now antsy to see what comes next since I have a suspicion about Nickel and Platinum And I enjoyed that extra tidbit about the origin of Lumie’s odditiesSo I was left wanting and in a good way For those who enjoy heartwarming and lighter mm urban fantasy I would highly recommend this series about a supernatural detective and his family of uirky dragonsMy thanks to Less Than Three Press for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

This is the fourth story in a series and best enjoyed when read in seriesDane a demigod and his husband Mercury a precious dragon shifter have been diligently assisting dragons in need for the past ten years while also raising their clutch of mis matched and genetically modified by evil human scientists kitsThis is the first time the narrator is not either Dane or Mercury Instead Nickel who is now an 18 year old dragon and a full on detective working for Dane's supernatural consultant firm tells half the story The other half of the story is told by Platinum an 18 yo air dragon recently escaped from the experimentation lab where he's lived his whole life Platinum has been on the run for about three weeks And he's managed to hole up in a cabin in a tiny mountain town learning how to survive on his own by taking odd jobs for cash He smells the scent of dragons nearby though so he knows he needs to move on before he's challenged for occupying the territory of another Nickel has taken on the role of lead investigator of a strange weather disturbance At the same time he's catching rumors of a new air dragon in the vicinity and following a lead on some of the brutal human scientists who'd escaped capture by Dane and Mercury in a sting five years before Nickel is a determined young man bent on gaining justice for the dragons and eggs these cruel folks experimented on to steal their magic Nickel and his kitmates have all survived such experimentation and he's than ready to destroy anyone who plans to begin that business all over againThis is a really interesting novella with all the humor twists and action that has become customary for this series Nickel's kitmates are a hoot as usual and a preteen Lumie is the wildest of this barely tame bunch His antics bring home not only Platinum but a pair of kittens for the dragon kits to suabble over Nickel's maturity and single minded focus to his work is a great counterpoint to the actions of his dragon siblings Meanwhile Platinum's life is truly changing for the better He's a special dragon with untested and unwieldy powers thanks to the humans who experimented on him It's good to see him get to use these powers to help himself remain free It's also good to see that he and Nickel have an instant connection one that may bear out a bit of romance in stories to come In truth Platinum is going to need a lot of TLC to connect with his kind in the real world and I'm hoping that Nickel will be just the dragon for that job He's got the strength the smarts and the stamina and I'd love to see a bit of his heart as he hopefully gives it to PlatinumEvery review I've read from folks who have not read the series in order has lamented beginning in the middle but not because the story can't stand on its own More to the point the richness and nuance of these characters' interactions makes the reader want to dig deeper I know I'm really enjoying myself on these fights of urban fantasy

I'm giving this a forward leaning 35 stars mostly because I am intrigued by the world but I am afraid that this isn't one of those series where you can just jump in at any volume and enjoy It just felt like I was expected to know about all the characters and the uniue world that they're inhabiting than what was explained within the book That said the story focuses mainly on Nickel and Platinum and the bond they have due to the evil scientists that are experimenting on dragons and torturing them and may or may not be government funded I'm not sure Nickel escaped them as a babykit and is now set on hunting them down and bringing them to justice with the help of the Supernatural Consultant Dane and Platinum is on the run after finally escaping A lot happens as the plot progresses and many happy discoveries and reunions take placeIt's overall a very positive book with action and warm and fuzzies galore Definitely intrigued me enough to want to see if reading the preceding volumes would shed light on things because it does definitely present a rather intriguing worldMany happy thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the early read

This book focuses on Nickel the oldest of Dane and Mercury’s kits Nickel has become a full fledged investigator and is still concentrating on the scientists who had experimented on him Platinum is a dragon on the run from these same evil men Though Nickel and Platinum don’t really meet in this story their lives are still intertwinedAs with the other books this one jumped ahead a few years Nicely written story that got one step closer to solving the mystery of who is behind the dragon experimentation I like this series and I’ve gotten used to the serial format Very imaginative storytelling and I’ve said in every other review Lumie shinesThis book was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing Design in exchange for an honest review Review Copy reuested and reviewed on behalf of OMGReads

This is book #4 in the Supernatural Consultant series This book should not be read as a standalone novel To be understood fully and to avoid spoilers I recommend reading this really imaginative series in orderNickel is a water elemental dragon He is now working at the Supernatural Consultant firm He wants to find out who or what is messing with the current weather His searches may put him in danger thoughPlatinum is on the run He has to hide from those mad scientists who have made his life miserable If only he could get far away fast enough Little does he know danger is lurkingThis was the latest installment of one of the most creative series I have had the pleasure to read The characters all have such uniue powers personalities and names I enjoyed learning about some of the rare dragons in this story I really cannot wait for the next book This early copy was given in exchange for an honest review
