The thriller I was hoping to read never materialized, which was unfortunate, because I liked the main characters and this could have been a good story. The author flip flopped back and forth between Eric and Susan, offering two likable people with realistic problems The clues were consistently laid out for the reader to see, and it was an inevitability that the two would eventually meet If Ms Barz felt she was concealing the truth of the murders and the murderer from us, she was wrong I am us The thriller I was hoping to read never materialized, which was unfortunate, because I liked the main characters and this could have been a good story. The author flip flopped back and forth between Eric and Susan, offering two likable people with realistic problems The clues were consistently laid out for the reader to see, and it was an inevitability that the two would eventually meet If Ms Barz felt she was concealing the truth of the murders and the murderer from us, she was wrong I am usually the last person to realize the twists in stories, but this tale was so obvious that I found myself continually losing interest Thus, the ending was expected and boring Other basic plot elements were also run of the mill Only the heroine has the smarts to figure it the truth as she deftly runs through setbacks and interference from her boss and the FBI agents who have taken over the case Bottom line The author knows how to put together sentences, and the dialogue is credible She also does a decent job with the characterizations of Eric and Susan However, these are not powerful enough to save the book, as the plot is tedious from overuse and the ending is too predictable and over the top to be entertaining Three stars

The most positive thing that I can say about this is that I like that one of the main characters Eric is a schizophrenic, who with the aid of appropriate medication is able to live very successfully with the condition and most people would be totally unaware I also like the other main character of Susan who is dogged, determined and caring Unfortunately, the book is so up and down in terms of pace I found it hard not to nod off at times For example, the laborious detail about Eric s geology c The most positive thing that I can say about this is that I like that one of the main characters Eric is a schizophrenic, who with the aid of appropriate medication is able to live very successfully with the condition and most people would be totally unaware I also like the other main character of Susan who is dogged, determined and caring Unfortunately, the book is so up and down in terms of pace I found it hard not to nod off at times For example, the laborious detail about Eric s geology class or the minutiae of Susan choosing her flavour of coffee Who gives a flying fig Did it add to the story NooooThere were one or two moments of humour which was light relief from the dark and weird storyline but then frivolous words are used on occasions that are serious and so sets the wrong tone and a jarring note Overall, it s a spooky story with an abundance of deaths At times it was quite eerie and at others a yawn

Buy the book or borrow it fromKU Oh man what a great debut The book starts with a bang, but then tapers out a bit with boring facts However, itthan makes up for it at about half way through and doesnt stop until the book is over There is a mild creep factor with the ghosts of dead children For those of you with this kind of trigger, dont worry, this book tells you how the kids meet there endbecause its being investigated , but it doesn t dwell on it or give you the killer Buy the book or borrow it fromKU Oh man what a great debut The book starts with a bang, but then tapers out a bit with boring facts However, itthan makes up for it at about half way through and doesnt stop until the book is over There is a mild creep factor with the ghosts of dead children For those of you with this kind of trigger, dont worry, this book tells you how the kids meet there endbecause its being investigated , but it doesn t dwell on it or give you the killers perspectiveHe groped for the quilt that had gotten bunched down at his feet and yanked it up roughly Shivering, he covered his naked, goose pimpled flesh The quilt whooshed back down over him and off the bed completelyI actually really loved that one of the main characters, Eric has schizophrenia and he is able to lead a successful and normal life Although, at times I wondered if he really had schizophrenia or if he was just clairvoyant Anyway, I just appreciate that mental illness was portrayed in a positive light and on our heroWhen people asked about his schizophrenia, Eric, who didn t exactly flaunt his illness but wasn t ashamed of it, either, offered up the comparison of alcoholism Not every drunk is a single bourbon away from skid row, just like every schizophrenic is not a tatty haired, crazy eyed gunman who delights in murdering alien people from clock towersI look forward to readingfrom this author

I really need to start DNFing books, so I don t have to write ranty reviews I prefer to write happy reviews for books I enjoyed.Let s talk about the only aspect of this book I really enjoyed and that is the character Eric He s unique with his schizophrenia His ex wife is a complete douche canoe but thankfully he doesn t pacify her at all He was a great likable character for the most part Story felt a bit boring at times, 53% in and the unlikely duo that team up , according to the books I really need to start DNFing books, so I don t have to write ranty reviews I prefer to write happy reviews for books I enjoyed.Let s talk about the only aspect of this book I really enjoyed and that is the character Eric He s unique with his schizophrenia His ex wife is a complete douche canoe but thankfully he doesn t pacify her at all He was a great likable character for the most part Story felt a bit boring at times, 53% in and the unlikely duo that team up , according to the books synopsis, had just met for the first time Then they only actually interview one person together, that s it, so I m not sure how that s teaming up There seems to be a lot of fillers, even with Eric, yes your ex is horrible but I m not sure how the constant internal discussion and trips down memory lane furthers the story news flash it doesn t.Though the story is spooky, because it s jumps into the paranormal genre , I didn t really find it thrilling In my opinion 25 % of the first half of the book could have been left out Second half of the book things actually happened but as soon as they did the book climaxed and everything was solved By the time the tense ending was taking place I just didn t care any I guess it was a decent ending but even that seems a bit abrupt like wham bam epilogue time Sadly I won t be readingin this series when they release

I love a good crime fiction mixed with the paranormal and was super curious to see how Vivian Barz s Forgotten Bones would play out As it s the first in a series, I was eager for a new series that would have me hooked.I ll be honest and say I was unsure at first I wasn t sucked in and I did consider putting this one aside It did not grip me in the way I d expected, giving usabout the lives of the characters than about the crime Although I wasn t sucked in as deep as I would have liked, I love a good crime fiction mixed with the paranormal and was super curious to see how Vivian Barz s Forgotten Bones would play out As it s the first in a series, I was eager for a new series that would have me hooked.I ll be honest and say I was unsure at first I wasn t sucked in and I did consider putting this one aside It did not grip me in the way I d expected, giving usabout the lives of the characters than about the crime Although I wasn t sucked in as deep as I would have liked, I was curious about things.TheI read, thesucked in I was The characters really grew on me, and I enjoyed watching the way the story developed With the way the paranormal developed, I found my attention was completely hooked later in the story Things were rather obvious from early on the mystery wasn t what I d expected it to be but I did enjoy seeing things play out.Forgotten Bones may not have been all I d expected it to be, but it did grow on me I came to enjoy itthan I d anticipated, and I am curious what will come next in the series

I m not reviewing this book because I couldn t bring myself to readthan 30 pages What follows is just me telling you why I so thoroughly rejected this one Be aware that what I m saying might be considered spoilers , though all of this happens within the first pages. We start off with a couple driving The male is giving a sober monologue of complaints, while the female is drunk and, for reasons unknown, totally turned on His ranting is sexy to her They re driving on unfamiliar roads I m not reviewing this book because I couldn t bring myself to readthan 30 pages What follows is just me telling you why I so thoroughly rejected this one Be aware that what I m saying might be considered spoilers , though all of this happens within the first pages. We start off with a couple driving The male is giving a sober monologue of complaints, while the female is drunk and, for reasons unknown, totally turned on His ranting is sexy to her They re driving on unfamiliar roads in the middle of nowhere Suddenly their conversation turns cruelly immature, as they make fun of the appearance of their friends child This apparently turns on the woman even , because now she is pawing at her partner He complains she s hurting him as she tries to tear his male parts out from his zipper She replies with, and this is a quote It s mine Mine Umm This scene goes on for pages, with her saying things like Gimme and Release the hound while trying to provide oral sex At one point, she even brayed All I could think of was a donkey in heat Meanwhile, the male is still trying to drive, instead of doing the rational thing and pulling over on the side of the deserted road I read this scene to my husband He gave me a WTF look and asked if a horny teen male had written it.I skimmed ahead Things didn t get better I gave up This was one of myFirst Read choices for July

What you should know before reading 1 Forgotten Bones is not your typical crime novel There is not a ton of crime solving, leads, or potential suspects instead it focuses on the daily lives of two MC s who somewhat haphazardly stumble onto clues 2 The book does include paranormal activity ghosts 3 I found the book to be rather slow, for example Eric s introduction chapter spends pages and pages to say two things he has schizophrenia and his wife cheated on him.4 The Police detective i What you should know before reading 1 Forgotten Bones is not your typical crime novel There is not a ton of crime solving, leads, or potential suspects instead it focuses on the daily lives of two MC s who somewhat haphazardly stumble onto clues 2 The book does include paranormal activity ghosts 3 I found the book to be rather slow, for example Eric s introduction chapter spends pages and pages to say two things he has schizophrenia and his wife cheated on him.4 The Police detective is not your typical do no wrong copper She is actually pretty inept For example, after finding a child s body, and learning important clues about the crime, she goes on a 4 day vacation without reporting the information. Why You May Like Forgotten Bones 1 The book is fairly well written, better then the majority I ve tried onFirst Reads 2 The two MCs are interesting and the characterization is on point.3 The paranormal aspects add an interesting layer to a standard crime novel. Why You May Not Like Forgotten Bones 1 As stated above the book is slow The main part of this is due to the focus on the characters life s instead of the crime.2 Unlike alot of crime books there is minimal actual leads crime solving There are also many points in the book where police characters make decisions that hurt the crime solving If this would make you frustrated, you may avoid the book.2 The plot felt rather contrived at times
