    Five stars for the dialogue, but just one for the plotting and construction the numerous plot complications conceal some real flimsiness, and the speed of the plot is partly a reflection of the scantiness of the background material in between the dialogue clips The reader isn t given all the information needed to follow and accept what s going on, much less guess at the circumstances behind the crime For instance, only two or three sentences are allotted for information about the actual murde Five stars for the dialogue, but just one for the plotting and construction the numerous plot complications conceal some real flimsiness, and the speed of the plot is partly a reflection of the scantiness of the background material in between the dialogue clips The reader isn t given all the information needed to follow and accept what s going on, much less guess at the circumstances behind the crime For instance, only two or three sentences are allotted for information about the actual murder, which isn t enough to make the rather oddball murder mechanism plausible, or even clear There s interesting color, especially on legal tactics, but with the poor construction, this is basically a romp novel, where one savors the moment and the wit, and that s all A fun read, though I ll try someof Bowen s books, and perhaps the others will be better

    Another of Bowen s intelligent, witty novels Lawyer Rep and his wife, academic Melissa, become entangled with some of her colleagues and students, and a woman whose father owned a machine tool company Also involved are some of Rep s lawyer friends and adversaries, plus a few other Milwaukans There are several trials,than one murder, and confusion that only the Pennyworths can resolve.

    With its Midwestern ties, the book is interesting if not riveting I enjoyed the language used While not a must read , the book has an unforeseen ending.
