    The artwork of Graeme Basemakes me long for my childhood.When books were truly magicportals to other worlds.The works of Base were notfeatured in my childhood.I m a little too old.But they have a playfulnessa child s sense of wonderthat make them instantlybeloved by any onewho was a childhood book lover.

    This book provides a background on the life of esteemed Australian children s book author illustrator Graeme Base There are very interesting insights in the the stories behind the creation of his amazing children s books Who knew that he had to remove Disney characters from Animalia at the last minute, or that much of Eleventh Hour was inspired by a year long world wide post Animalia jaunt This is hardly an objective view the author Julie Watts was responsible for publishing many of Graeme s This book provides a background on the life of esteemed Australian children s book author illustrator Graeme Base There are very interesting insights in the the stories behind the creation of his amazing children s books Who knew that he had to remove Disney characters from Animalia at the last minute, or that much of Eleventh Hour was inspired by a year long world wide post Animalia jaunt This is hardly an objective view the author Julie Watts was responsible for publishing many of Graeme s books.As Ben Ely from Regurgitator put it I like your old stuff better than your new stuff I loved Animalia and Eleventh Hour and these sections of this book were pretty exciting Once he became an established talent this book becomes a little formulaic Came up with idea, put it to publishers, worked the idea a bit, published and it was reasonably successful

    I ve always enjoyed Graeme Base s beautifully intricate and detailed artwork My favorite of his has to be The Eleventh Hour, but this book has me curious to readby him It also gave meappreciation for his talent which is evident even in his sketches I loved seeing how he works on one section of an image at a time, completing it carefully while the rest of the page is just lightly sketched out I also see nowhow his graphic design background influences his compositions in thei I ve always enjoyed Graeme Base s beautifully intricate and detailed artwork My favorite of his has to be The Eleventh Hour, but this book has me curious to readby him It also gave meappreciation for his talent which is evident even in his sketches I loved seeing how he works on one section of an image at a time, completing it carefully while the rest of the page is just lightly sketched out I also see nowhow his graphic design background influences his compositions in their use of white space with items leaping out of frame Thought it was cool how he uses tracing paper to help in figuring how his layouts will work best, too This book is from a few years ago so his most recent work is not profiled in here It s interesting to see the chances he took along the way in his career, even though some ideas provedsuccessful than others Also I m totally jealous how his vast travels have inspired his art

    Wonderful compilation of his works with many illustrations final and in progress I m amazed I made it through this since I was caring for a newborn at the same time and it s somewhat long, but I loved it.

    I ve been a fan of Graeme Base for a long time so it was interesting to learnabout his life and his books This book walks through each of his books and shows his process for creating them Beautiful artwork and an enjoyable read.

    If you are a Graeme Base fan, this is a MUST read An incredible book that gives great insight into Base s work and the influences of his childhood that led him to be the amazing author illustrator he is today.

    This book is total eye candy I could look at Graeme Bases work over and over again I asked SPL to add this title to our collection and I m SO glad we did.

    As a big fan of Graeme Base s artwork I really enjoyed the opportunity to look at the development of his work This book did a great job of letting the reader do that.
