One of the best of the Abbey Girls books brings changes for almost all the characters Jen and Joy go through immense hardship as first Jen's father then her mother then Andrew Marchwood all die A new friend Ann at first intends to use the Abbey as journalistic fodder but is captivated by the little community and by the Abbey itself based on Cleeve Abbey in Somerset but in the novels set in Oxfordshire Rosalind has difficulty forgiving a friend who teases and betrays her but comes through when the friend has problems of her own Maidlin is forced to decide whether to accept the responsibility of becoming May ueen but rises to the occasion just in time for Joy to rejoice before simultaneously losing her husband and bearing twinsFortunately in this book the tiny twins are purely adorable showing no signs that they are about to become two of the most irritating children in all fiction

REREAD #1 8 May 2020 12 May 2020 710I've just reread this for a group discussion I'm surprised both that I'm giving it a relatively low score and my first through was 610 and how different that is from the first timeAll the good things I'm sure I liked the first time are still there and the interactions between the characters are lovely but I'm finding myself frustrated by how hard the author is on creative introverts and how idealised the outspoken extroverts are instead It's nearly 100 years old and I'm probably not being fair but that's the way I find myself feeling so I'm going to go with current instinctI'm not sorry I reread it and I hope we have a good discussion about it but it didn't grab me so much this timeFIRST READ 20 May 2018 25 May 2018 910Sorry for the lack of review I'm catching up on posting my reading but don't feel up to comments
