Rising Tides is the second book in Nora Roberts' Chesapeake Bay uinn Brothers saga It features the middle brother Ethan who was the 2nd boy rescued by Ray and Stella uinn and given a new life He's the epitome of the saying still waters run deep Ethan may be able to hold his own in a fight with his brothers but he prefers to take things slow to think them through and doesn't see the need to chatter unless there's something that really needs to be said He's battered and scarred from a tragic childhood that haunts him to this day The abuse he suffered has kept him from acting on his feelings for young single mother Grace Monroe but with Seth in the picture Ethan finds that not only has his life drastically changed but he can't keep his feelings for Grace a secret any longerThis is yet another highly enjoyable book from Nora Roberts I liked it almost as much as book 1 in the series Ethan is such an interesting character At times he's just as rough and tumble as Cam but at other times he's a uiet loner His tragic childhood is heartbreaking and it makes you just want to give him a big hug and maybe a kiss or two When it comes to his relationship with Grace you can really see how the past still haunts him and causes endless conflict Roberts played that out perfectly especially the resolutionNormally I don't enjoy books with kids in them but Grace's daughter Aubrey is just too cute for words I really liked her small parts in the book And I liked Grace as well She was a real sweetheartOne of the great things about this book and common to NR trilogy books is that even though the book focuses on one couple in this case Ethan and Grace you still get plenty of the other characters They are still a basis of the story It really helps you to know them better and develops this amazing sense of family and togethernessAnd another great thing about the book is the progression of Seth's story It was touching to read about how much he's improved since the uinn's took him in He's growing and starting to put the past behind him I love the interactions he has with everyone For a 10 year old he's a really strongly developed characterIf you read and enjoyed Sea Swept then you should definitely read this book and you'll most likely enjoy it It is a great continuation of the series and just an all round nice romance to read

Final rating 4755 starsAnother great book in the series And another sudden ending but I'm getting used to it since all stories are connected and the character stories don't end with each book as they appear through all 4 books This time story focus is on Ethan the second brother continuing directly after the last book ended And I loved it I admit I was frustrated sometimes with the beating around the bush thing going on between the two center characters but I also loved it and I'm glad I read this story too The other side of the story was focused on Seth although a bit less than the first book There is a lot of darkness in each one of the brothers pasts and whenever they are happy it makes me happy as well Nora deals with some heavy themes in these books as each and every single brother in uinn's household went through many traumatic events of each kind But they went through the worst and darkest parts in their lives and stepped into the light with the help provided by two people who only wanted to save lost souls And Ethan has definitely one of the worst pasts out of everyone And Nora dealt with his traumas as it should and concluded his story as was necessary And Seth is strongly developed character for a 10 year old kid and whenever he is happy it makes me happy All of the brothers and the people around them deserve to be happy ► STORY The story continues right after the wedding of Cameron and Anna After leaving on the honeymoon Ethan uinn was left to deal with Seth most of the days Phillip works during the work days in other city and comes only at weekend But Ethan doesn't mind that he could use some peace and uiet The boat building business the three now four of them started was going smoothly and the situation settles down for a bitEthan has admired their housekeeper from afar is in love with her for years but his traumatic past makes him unable to approach her and tell her the truth And Grace Monroe is a single mother of a child divorced and alone But doing fine uite fine despite being in strained relationship with her own father If only Ethan would realize she set her eyes on him years ago Seth is doing fine much better than before but there is still a looming threat above their heads concerning Seth's mother and her schemes to get what she wants The plot takes place 3 months after the death of Ray uinn ► CHARACTERS ◈ Ethan 30 years old was saved when he was 12 from the past that brutally broke him physically as well as mentally He was saved by the kindness of uinns but they could never fix him completely He still has nightmares and the emotional scars left have scarred him worse than anything Afraid of perusing relationship he could only stand by and be friends with the woman he loves Afraid of ruining her and tainting her because of what happened him he stays calculated calm patient and alone Painfully alone His past affects everything he does making him a person who would rather be alone that hurt anyone unwillingly He is painfully shy very concerned and overly protective when it comes to people he loves but when it comes to Grace Monroe he just loses it whenever something bad happens Which often leads to saying things that definitely sound wrong in her ears the exact things she really really doesn't want to hear Ethan has known Grace for years Having almost 8 years difference only made him wait for longer but he is still very afraid to approach her on that matter and say three simple things i love you He is absolutely captivated by her daughter and loves her a lot While he can express himself wrongly he does know when to say things at the right time no matter how much it hurts him ◈ Grace 22 year old single mother is a family friend of uinns for years Being their house keeper and cleaning up whenever she can that being her job she took on jobs to survive Having a strained and difficult relationship with her own father after she got divorced after giving birth to her beautiful daughter Aubrey made her only determined to show that she can do everything alone Her pride wouldn't take no for an answer And her stubbornness even so Despite her pride and stubbornness she takes everything said to her to heart and is uick to come to conclusions but is also strong and very defiant and when she needs to prove a point she doesn't back down from the fight But she is now very afraid that she would lose her job to Anna having just married into the family and being concurrence for the house touches And that would make her unable to find excuses anywhere near Ethan whom she admired for years ◈ Seth is getting and relaxed after finally realizing that the brothers now his brothers won't give up on him and that he would not return to his mother by their choice Making friends and rocking at school and drawing the ships for his new brothers he is getting accustomed to his new life nicely but nightmares still come to him and he has still that wary look in the eyes What he needed the most was someone who had survived what he had and Ethan despite the pain it brings him to share his past with anyone would tell him about it rather than let the guilt and fear stab Seth from the inside He needed to know so he could connect with someone who went through something similar and open up a bit I am so so damn glad he view spoiler managed to escape each time and was not subjected to that horror of what Ethan's own mother did to him hide spoiler

The second book in the series picks up right where Sea Swept left off Anna and Cam are on their honeymoon Phillip is commuting to the house on the bay every weekend to help build the new boat and care for their new brother Seth Seth is finally blending into his new family with help from Ethan the steady thoughtful fishermancraftsman who now has his eyes set on something than just the next crab pot But can he let go of his past in order to finally move forward? What I Liked The character development Ethan and Grace are clearly the focus of this book and we learn about their depth of emotion and past struggles And we also continue to learn about all the other characters that were introduced in the first book as well The series continues to build on itself without feeling crowded or rushed The little nuances of NR's writing We get to see hear and smell everything Grace's bruised leg the clumsy puppy chasing balls the manic bird closing out the day the lemony scent of perfume in the air the warm colors of the sinking sun These small touches are what makes good books even better What I Could Have Done Without The cigar smoking by the MC This is a personal thing and doesn't have any bearing on the story itself; however since it's my review What I Wanted More Of I am trying so hard to be patient with learning about Seth's true paternity Common sense tells me that this all too important fact won't be revealed until the 4th book in the series Chesapeake Blue where Seth is the focus but I'm still chomping at the bit to get detailshintsclues than we have been given so farA solid 35 star book I would know this was Nora Roberts' book even if her name wasn't on the cover A few points kept it from a higher rating but those were personal and did not take away from the overall experience of the book On to Inner Harbor

Review without spoilers Ray and Stella had taken them in three half grown boys all wild all damaged all strangers And had made them a familyOh my Grace thought with her nose pressed up against the window Oh my If she’d ever seen two impressive examples of the male form she couldn’t say when She’d only intended to sneak a uick glance Really Just one innocent little peek But then Ethan had peeled off his shirt and Another multiple re read I don’t tire ofThis book picks up where the first ended but the pace is different matching the MCs personalities Ethan is a waterman He literally breaths and lives the sea Come hell or high water everyday at dawn he is out on his fishing boat He is the solitary of the three uinns brothers The uite one Contrary to Cam he likes to think things thoroughly before making his moves “You were meant to be ours Meant to be here Took to the water like you’d been born in it Cam he always just wanted to go fast and Phillip preferred to sit back and enjoy the ride But you”He turned back again his gaze thoughtful “You studied every inch of the boat every wave every turn of a river You’d practice tying knots for hours and nobody had to nag you into swabbing the decks”“It came easy for me right from the start”“Christ you were a spooky kid Ethan uiet as a shadow deep as a lake”“And that smile It takes like ten minutes for it to finish moving over his face and by then man you are drooling” But when he let go But oh he had a need one that swamped him like a storm surge and left him flounderingThe gentler sweeter emotion that shimmered from him was so calmer than that first whip of greed; it only gilded the edges of the yearning he’d stirred Grace is a young single mother She is fiercely independant and working hard to built her baby girl a beautiful future juggling with as many jobs as she can take She had a sheltered childhood and it’s seems like she always was in love with Ethan “Because she’s rock steady pretty as a picture patient as Job and she’s got enough humor about life to tickle out yours”But the fact was growing up there had only been two things she’d wanted The dance and Ethan uinn“Damn she’s the best thing that ever happened to you I don’t just mean the sex though that’s got to be part of what’s perked you up around here lately The woman fits you like the proverbial glove” Her feelings for Ethan are mutual The problem is Ethan believes he’s too damaged for someone as bright and pure as Grace There were shadows in those eyes that Ethan also recognized The wounded recognized the wounded He knew that Seth’s life before Ray had taken him on had been a nightmare He’d lived through one himself“Sometimes it still comes back on me Pain and shame And the sweaty fear of knowing what’s going to happen” And between Ethan stubborness and Grace shyness they most certainly need all the help they can get and that was funny “Not saying different Just saying slow Seen them moony eyed over each other since before that boy got his own workboat Has to be nearly ten years passed Stella and I –bless her soul– had a conversation over it a time or two”“Rabbits” he said slowly “Probably”“Rabbits?”“Yeah” He shifted uncomfortably wishing to Christ he’d at least gotten his pants on before she burst in “Rabbits can be a problem with gardens They just hop up and help themselves”“Rabbits” she said again“Could be deer” he added just a little desperately “They’d graze over and eat every damn thing down to stubs” Counting on pity he shot a look at Cam “Right?” LMAOSeth is still in the heart of the story Grace is the first woman he trully trusts and loves and he has things in commun with Ethan that he thinks The way he settles in his new life is thrilling as well as heartbreaking He didn’t want them to know he was waiting for them or that he was excited that they would be home any minute But he was He couldn’t understand why he was all pumped up about it They’d only been gone a couple of weeks and Cam was a pain in the ass most of the time anywaySeth grabbed his sandpaper and began to work furiously And blindly His eyes were dazzled his heart in his throat It happened whenever one of them referred to him as a uinnWell he was going to watch and he was going to see He could still run if things got sticky Though the idea of running made his stomach hurt in a way it had never done before He’d discovered that the uinns kept their word It was a new and wonderful concept to him a promise kept If they probe it now he knew it would hurt than anything had hurt him before

This book needs a major trigger warning there is child abuse Although it's in the past it is still very disturbing Ethan had a horrific childhood By the time the uinn's saved him he was almost dead and completely without hope They helped him to heal but he still carried a hurt on his soul and never saw himself worthy of love marriage and especially children Grace always loved him A strong single mother She is willing to work hard and gives heartily to others but her pride keeps her from Ethan This is a beautiful love story and hard to put down 💕

  7. Jacob Proffitt Jacob Proffitt says:

Better than the first book I think but not by a lot Ethan isn't the demanding jerkwad that Cam is but he has his own neuroses and it was layered on rather thick The whole I'm tragically flawed and must be alone thing was rather self indulgent and that stood against every other aspect of his lifeThat said Grace was nine kinds of awesome even if view spoilershe did go kind of stupid with the whole assuming Ethan just needed her to take the steps to advance their relationship She should have known he wasn't that kind of stupid I think hide spoiler

Awwww you knowuntil I discovered this author I considered myself a practical levelheaded and down to Earth kind of woman Not all the time but most of it I try to be reasonable and sensible when I have to make a decision I never fuss or get distressed on situations that tend to make most people altered and upset What I'm trying to say is that I'm not of the emotional type the analyze every freaking detail before making a decision type of girl So then why do I keep getting surprise when I end up all teary eyed about Nora Robert's books? Where is that woman I just described? Where's the practicality when you get all mushy and soft by reading a book? LOL All I have to say is that I adore the way this author writes cont romance and I truly hope she never stopsWhile I was worried sick I wouldn't like this book because Ethan and Grace seemed a bit boring and steady I was thrilled to see I was completely wrong and both of them had temper It just took them a bit long to find it but it was definitely there And I adored both of them even because they ended up being who they were after all the terrible things that happened to them both It takes a strong person to become a good one after all the 4 brothers went through so how not to love them? Seth is becoming an amazing boy as well and even though some trouble will definitely be coming on the next books I have no doubt the 4 of them will be able to solve everything if they stick together They are an amazing family brothers of the heart and I respect them even for having such strong feelings for each other even though they are not blood Can't wait to read

Another sweet read I liked Ethan and Grace although Ethan was a bit stubborn at times I know he had a tough upbringing prior to meeting the uinns but Interesting storyline about Seth Want to keep reading so that I find out what the little mystery is but might wait a while I really think some of these older kindle books should be a bit cheaper But that is just me probablyNice to catch up with the characters from the first book

35 Stars I am often amazed when I read a Nora Roberts book The opening of this book is just so lovely in terms of place feeling and character How does she do this so prolifically? I love that Ethan is a working class hero and so devoted to his family The loved forever theme is a fun one and Grace is great as wellRoberts writing shines but I am kept from falling in love with this book because I want to send Ethan to therapy and want what happens at the end of the book to occur in the middle of the book so that we get a love story of acknowledged euals rather than 95% of the story with Ethan doing what he thinks is best instead of evolving
