This book is a collection of essays about the changing dynamics driving political parites in America It has plenty of useful information especially for someone may not be already deeply versed in US politics One early essay by Stonecash does a great job of explicating the great party switch that occurred after the civil rights movement and tying the resulting electoral confusion to the dealignment theory of US politics that was in vogue a couple of decades back For me this essay was the highlight of the bookOther authors tackle topics like race class religion and immigration and how they interact with our parties Later chapters take up topics like President as Partisan Actor and the institutional changes within Congress that lead to stronger parties The essays are relatively short and to the point though generally written in academic prose
